Hello Austin! Once you fight your way through the infamous Austin traffic there is a world of tastiness awaiting you. Below is the highlight reel of our adventures in the Texas capitol.
Our first stop in town was the Radio Coffee Bar where we charged up with a nitro cold brew and feasted on tacos from the Veracruz Tacos truck right outside.
First Thursday in Austin
On the first Thursday in Austin local businesses on south Congress Street keep extended hours and street vendors come out to sell their goods. We even saw a guy ride into a shop on a horse! Only in Austin...
OK, so if you told us a month ago we would wait in line for four hours for a plate of bbq we would have laughed in your face. But that's exactly what we did when we went to Franklin BBQ for the first time. We arrived around 10:30am thinking we had beat the crowd with plenty of time to spare for the 11am opening. Ha! Turns out the line is more like four hours for the James Beard award winning BBQ. Well, after several hours of fun conversation with our fellow pals in line we finally made it to the order counter. Believe it or not, it really is worth the wait.
Ice Cream Break!
Ice cream break at Lick ice cream. We were so enthralled in our ice cream we forgot to take photos!
Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah at the Mohawk
Nothing like a little music in Austin! Opening act Teen Men had fun visuals they played synched up with their tunes.
Started the day off with breakfast tacos from Taco Deli.
This Small business mash up was a great all in one stop for coffee from Wright Brothers Brew and Brew, goods from Byron & Blue, and music and zines from Punctum.
Great atmosphere and well designed branding! Pastrami sandwich was a great base for our locally brewed hefeweizen.
Because everyone needs a donut sometimes, we stopped at this super fun donut airstream and got way more than we bargained for. "The Carney" was like an apple pie and a donut had a baby. Be warned, these are like full meals in and of themselves!
AMAZING!!! If you can only have one meal in Austin, have it here.
You know how they say"when in Rome"? Well "when in Austin..."
Farewell Austin! It was fun!
