Paris, France

Excited to report that in the fall we went on vacation to Paris. Above you'll see our view from the air bnb we rented - a 5th floor walk up - which was charming and located ideally in the first arrondissement. It served as  great home base for all our adventures!

This was our last attempt at eating healthy at MIA where we flew out of.

Our first official meal in Paris! Jet lag on our heels but not quite upon us, we went out to enjoy Nuit Blanche, a special night in Paris featuring exciting lighting installations and special events throughout the city. We stumbled upon this little restaurant and shared a bacon, camembert and walnut crepe.

The French Space Agency was open that night and had a great show about selected artists interpreting space exploration. Here is an artist's rendition of a space contraption.

There were a few of these artists performing this night. At first look we weren't exactly impressed because we just thought it was a sculpture garden - surely the stacks were held together with beams or some such stabilizer. We soon found out the artists were actually balancing each piece of rock or debris on top of each other. Some towers looked dangerously precarious but they kept their form while being simultaneously alluring.

At midnight there was a boat parade on the Seine River. On the left you'll see a boat carrying a bunch of folks waving lit up white flags. It was very beautiful! On the right were two paper boats lit up on a boat - an amusing redundancy.

This is the courtyard of the apartment building we stayed in. The history was that our apartment used to be the maid's chambers. They still have a  little service sign on the front door.

Pasta Truffe! The market was closing down so we barely squeaked in this order. Thankfully we did, because it is one of the best things we have ever eaten. We almost ended up with 8 or 9 canolis because of a translation woopsie, which I guess wouldn't have been so bad, but our better judgement prevailed and we clarified so we only ended up with two.

We checked out Colette, a fashion and design boutique which housed many fascinating products and clothing. I didn't catch the designer here but the garments were delicious looking!

And what's a little ice cream without a vegetable lunch? Scrumptious vegetable bowl from Coquettes. We actually would not recommend this restaurant because it was expensive and we weren't very excited about the menu. Hence the bowl of vegetables. They were beautifully served though!

The lighting was ideal when we came upon the Arc de Triomphe. It took us a little bit to find the tunnel to it but once we did it was splendid.

Of course we were exhausted at night after exploring the city all day so we gladly binge watched Luke Cage on Netflix (It had just dropped that week!) at night to wind down. We brought a little piece of home with us, this tiny bear, and he also watched Luke Cage with us.

Part one of the Falafel-off! We went to what is suppose to be the best falafel restaurant in the world, L'As du Fallafel, but they happened to be closed that day. So we went to it's competitor accross the street Mi-va-mi. It was pretty good still!

Balloon man! Where are you going?! Shortly after we saw this balloon man, a young lady came out carrying a six foot doll! We followed them for at least a half hour until they both disappeared into a nondescript building we couldn't get into. Alas.

Bless you Milka! We found Milka at a convenience store in our neighborhood. As you can see it is a chocolate bar with wafers in the center of each piece. If you ever need any favors we accept Milka as payment.

The airbnb owner's son recommended this restaurant. He couldn't remember the name so he drew the route on a napkin. We arrived and once inside the seemingly small facade unfolded into a great dining hall of Ramen! What do you get when you put two exhausted Americans who do not speak french into a restaurant where the menu is in Japanese? Folks who are glad the recommender told them the one dish to order off the menu. So we did, and this was it. And it was sodium heaven! It was a wonderful final meal for our Paris adventure. The trip in one word: YUM.
